Longmarket Street is a unique street in the Cape Town CBD that is deeply rooted in our history and extends from the Bo-Kaap to District Six. Following the most recent Open Streets Day in the City Centre (on Bree Street and Longmarket street), we would like to invite you to join us in exploring the potential of Longmarket Street as an essential part of a car-free CBD.
Besides its rich history, Longmarket Street features various forms of street design which do not always facilitate safe and convenient pedestrian and non-motorised mobility. However, as one of only two continuous thoroughfares in the CBD, it holds the potential to facilitate the safe and convenient movement of pedestrians and other non-motorised street users.
In this Talking Streets, we will walk, play and discuss our experiences, queries and ideas for Longmarket Street in order to identify the opportunities and gaps for a car-free CBD.
