Leave your car at home and join the movement to experience streets differently!
Open Streets aims to create shared spaces that help bridge the social and spatial divides in Cape Town, and encourage us all to think differently about how we move around the city.
This will be the fourth time King Langalibalele Drive / Washington Street hosts Open Streets (since 2015), and the day forms part of the Open Streets 2018-19 season. The series kicked off in October Transport Month in Woodstock, followed by Bellville in November, City Centre (Bree Street) in January and will wrap in March in Mitchells Plain (the last Sunday of each month).
ROUTE:
King Langalibalele Drive (Washington Street) - between Sandile & Bhunga Avenues - and Jungle Walk - between Brinton & Moffat Streets

WHAT IS OPEN STREETS?
Open Streets Days are a local programme inspired by Colombia’s Ciclovía. The concept is to close down a street temporarily so that it becomes car-free. It’s a chance for people to reclaim streets as public space, for walking, cycling, skating, playing, exploring and general socialising. Open Streets suspends reality and allows us to imagine a new “normal” for our streets. Watch a short video here: https://youtu.be/-IL2iv4Kkws
WHO ORGANISES IT?
Open Streets Cape Town, a citizen-driven NPO, with the support of TUMI (Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative), the City of Cape Town, WWF Nedbank Green Trust, as well as the help of many volunteers, residents and friends!
WHY?
To create shared spaces that can help bridge social and spatial divides in Cape Town, and encourage people to think differently about how we move around the city
