Open Streets Bellville 2016

In partnership with the Greater Tygerberg Partnership, Open Streets is coming back to Bellville on Sunday 20th November
OSBellville
Start Date
Sunday, November 20, 2016 - 10:00
End Date
Sunday, November 20, 2016 - 15:00
Venue
Voortrekker Road, Bellville (between Durban Rd & Oos St)

For the second time, Voortrekker Road in Bellville will be dedicated to people instead of cars just for a few hours. Kids and adults will be able to dance, play, cycle, skate, explore, connect and showcase projects in the space transformed by Open Streets in collaboration with the Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP).

Find out about the other three dates in the Open Streets Days series here.

What is an Open Streets Day?

An Open Streets Day is an opportunity for all to explore a street as a space that connects people. It suspends reality for a few hours and shows a glimpse of what our future could be. Rather than being an event, Open Streets is simply a day to re-imagine public life and use our streets differently.

How can I participate?

COME ALONG ON THE DAY!

ATTEND THE PUBLIC MEETING - Come along to find out more about how to get involved and ask questions or give feedback: Thursday 20th October, 18:30 at the Bellville Civic Centre Conference Hall.

ORGANISE AN ACTIVITY - You could host anything from a yoga class to a street soccer match; give live drawing demonstrations or hold a poetry reading. Email info@openstreets.co.za with your idea.

VOLUNTEER ON THE DAY - Help us ensure the day runs smoothly as well as having fun and meeting new people. From helping with traffic management to ensuring children are safe; this is a practical way to contribute to the day and learn some skills. A mandatory training session will take place on 12 November. To sign up, click here.

APPLY TO BE A VENDOR - Open Streets is not a market, but there is an opportunity for food vendors who are registered with the City of Cape Town to have a spot. To apply, send us an email with your contact details, the type of food you will be selling and your official Certificate of Acceptability. Those who are not yet registered still have time to get a temporary certificate from the Environmental Health Department.

JOIN THE LOCAL ORGANISING COMMITTEE - For people who are interested in being more actively involved, we'd love to have you join the Local Organising Committee, which will meet every Thursday at 10am at the GTP offices in Bellville from 27th October until 17th November. We welcome everyone to this team and look forward to growing it, so please come along or contact us for more info.

SPREAD THE WORD - Open Streets depends on everyone to get the word out and make it a vibrant and fun day.

Share the Facebook event with your friends

How much does it cost?
It's free.

How will I get there?
We encourage you to use public transport, car-pool or your own steam to get to an Open Streets Day. Take a train to Bellville station or minibus taxi to Bellville, or stay tuned for details of a bike bus you could cycle with.

What do I bring?
Comfortable shoes, sunscreen, water, bike, skateboard, your family and all your friends.

What if it rains?
Come rain or shine; Open Streets will carry on. Bring an umbrella if you don't want to get wet.
