We’re excited to invite you to a Street Minds ‘town hall’ gathering (via Zoom) to bring together current thinking and action to reimagine Cape Town's streets in light of the emerging challenges and opportunities of Covid-19.
WHEN: Thursday 28 May, at 16:30 - 17:30
RSVP to info@openstreets.co.za and we will send you a Zoom meeting link.
Please also share the Facebook event with anyone you think might be interested to join in.
We've created a shared folder to collect relevant resources: Streets & Covid-19
WHAT: During the session, we will share examples of local and global street interventions and facilitate dialogue around practical, solutions-focused action we can take forward collaboratively:
- What are the challenges and opportunities right now?
- What solutions to these challenges and opportunities are already emerging?
- How might immediate interventions in response to the pandemic be maximised for long-term transformation?
WHO: Street Minds is a dynamic group of individuals and organisations that believe streets can be so much more than conduits for cars. Street Minds was established by Open Streets Cape Town in 2016 and draws together professionals, government officials, academics, advocates, cyclists, skateboarders, business owners to think about how streets can be transformed. This think-work is then translated into do-work with scope ranging from tactical urbanism projects to policy writing efforts. Read more here.
WHY: Streets, and how their functionality is transformed to respond to the current public health crisis is a critical issue to address. South Africans are valuing public space with a new and urgent perspective and local governments have a renewed pressure to look at transforming shared spaces. This is the time and environment to ask HOW? This is the time and environment to ask FOR WHO? This is where Street Minds collaborate to lead the way in solution building.
