First of all, THANK YOU to those who have responded to the call for financial support and helped to get the ball rolling. We are working on setting up a system to make it easier for people to contribute; stay tuned!
Last week we delivered successful presentations to the City of Cape Town's Portfolio Committees for Tourism, Events & Economic Development and Transport for Cape Town. This was to give feedback on the last two Open Streets days, as well as to look at the future of the Open Streets programme in Cape Town. The next step in this journey is to present to the Mayor next month in order to get approval for a next round of funding. Hold thumbs!
This coming weekend is full of exciting activities and many of our partners will be showcasing their work. If you will be in Cape Town, make sure to take note and take part!
If you were in Langa on 29 March, you will be pleased to hear there are two reasons to return this weekend. The Langa Quarter is running an annual graffiti competition - find all you need to know here. On Sunday, DJ Fosta (one of our key local partners for Open Streets Langa) will be playing at the first Cold Turkey to be hosted in Langa.
On Saturday, the Cape Town Partnership is inviting people to play in pedestrian spaces of the CBD. A full list of activities, many of them regular Open Streets contributors, can be found here.
Also coming up, the African Arts Institute is offering an exciting 3 week programme of lectures and other activities as part of their African Arts Campus. We strongly recommend that you don't miss this opportunity to delve into some of the richness of African arts and culture. Details here.
Finally, if you are wondering where the Open Streets engine runs from, we are fortunate to call 75 Harrington home! Recently named the city's most happening and hip work hub" by the Weekend Argus, there is always something interesting on. Follow 75 Harrington on Facebook to keep up and see who else inhabits this amazing building. This Saturday, Sunshine Cinema have something exciting happening!
Warmly,
The Open Streets Cape Town Team
